Legal
Choosing your Lake Como wedding to be legally binding is a wonderful option that most of our brides prefer. To achieve this, please see below the procedures you are obliged to follow to meet the requirements of Italian law. We will help, guide, and support you along the way!
- UK & European Citizens Legal process:
1. Letter of No Impediment for both Bride & Groom (not dated older than 6 months if you are resident in England, Northern Ireland and Wales and 3 months before if you are resident in Scotland)
2. Getting a statutory declaration, you and your partner will need to make a statutory declaration before a solicitor or public notary in UK. The Italian authorities will need this in addition to your Certificate of No Impediment.
3. Divorce Certificate if applicable
4. Deed Poll Certificate if applicable
5. Adoption Certificate if applicable
6. Death Certificate if applicable
All the above documents will need to be apostilled by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO). You will then need to have the legalised Certificate of No Impediment translated. As it will become an Italian legal document, it must be translated by a translator based in Italy and recognised by the Italian courts. You’ll also need to get your Certificate of No Impediment sworn before the Italian courts or an Italian Justice of the Peace.
We will also require a photocopy of both Bride & Groom’s passport.
At least 2 days prior to the wedding there is a Verbal Declaration at the town hall where you are going to get married, this is where your documents are checked, and you confirm there are no impediments to the marriage according to the Italian Civil Code. The wedding ceremony is conducted in Italian so you will need an official interpreter for this..
- USA Citizens Legal process:
There are two different options as listed below:
OPTION 1 (The below documents to be gathered in the USA)
1. Bride & Groom’s full original Birth Certificate with both parent’s names.

of the date of your wedding).
3. Divorce Certificate if applicable
4. Deed Poll Certificate if applicable
5. Adoption Certificate if applicable
6. Death Certificate if applicable
All the above documents will need to be apostilled, then translated into Greek by the
agencies authorized by the Greek Embassy and finally have a Greek consular stamp.
We will also require a photocopy of both Bride & Groom’s passport and Affidavit of Single
Status (not dated older than 3 months of the date of your wedding).
